Portland Auto Dealer: Could the Suzuki Kizashi get a VW Powertrain?
It’s been awhile since Suzuki announced it was teaming up with Volkswagen, but rumors are just starting about whether or not Suzuki will secure a VW powerplant for the popular Kizashi. Questions surrounding the company partnership has mainly focused on the development of small cars for emerging markets.
According to an article on Green Auto Blog, Suzuki feels that the Kizashi’s only engine, a 2.4-liter DOHC four-cylinder that cranks out 185 horsepower and 170 pound-feet of torque, lacks sufficient power to push the Kizashi to be a top performer in its class and doesn’t allow Suzuki’s sedan to compete in the fuel efficiency wars in the midsize hybrid segment.
Rumor has it that VW may be able to remedy this concern by supplying Suzuki with a V6 engine, a hybrid powertrain or even a diesel mill for use in the Kizashi. This could make for a strong start to a great partnership, but we’ll just have to wait and see until the rumors are confirmed.
