Portland Car Dealer: Gladstone Suzuki Featured Vehicle – 2009 Toyota Corolla S

For a fuel efficient car that doesn’t leave passengers feeling cramped, it’s hard to find a better vehicle than the 2009 Toyota Corolla S. The car received a 35 mpg rating on the highway, which is just a few notches short of the fuel economy of a hybrid. More impressive, though, is its spaciousness. With five full seats, this mid-sized sedan is popular in America for a reason—and it’s why we’ve chosen it as our Gladstone Suzuki featured vehicle.

This 2009 Corolla is strikingly practical. With radio controls on the steering wheel, a trunk lid that opens remotely, and powered (and heated) mirrors, it possesses all of the amenities that give vehicles a luxurious sense of class. The side impact air bags, anti-lock brakes, and rear defroster, though, ensure that it’s designed to keep you safe on any road, wet or dry.

For all of this, it remains affordable. As part of our great Internet specials, you can drive home with this low-mileage Corolla for just over $15,000, but we know these models don’t last long. If this sounds like the perfect vehicle for you, come in this weekend for a pressure-free test drive!

Portland Car Dealer: 3 Steps to Get Rid of Mildew in Your Car

Having been around vehicles for years, Gladstone Suzuki knows that mildew can happen to a vehicle of any age. Dampness from a dog, rainstorm, or towel left on the seat will set into the upholstery, and suddenly your car exudes a putrid smell of mildew. It appears in an instant, and can linger for months in the summer heat. Mildew is a mold that thrives in warm, confined places, and air fresheners will combat the smell but not the source. If this obnoxious mold has entered your car, you don’t have to replace all of the seats and carpet, but you do need to follow these steps to remove it permanently.

1. Find the source. Your whole car might smell of mildew, but as long as you catch it early, it should be localized to a single area. The odor will be strongest there, and the spot might be distinctly colored as well: black, blue-green, white, or brown. It should be near a source of dampness (a spill, wet piece of clothing, or leaking window), and if you haven’t yet, remove or repair that source.

2. Clean the mildew. Soak up all of the moisture with a rag or shop vacuum, and then cover the remaining mold with bleach to kill the spores. You can spray the area with a homemade solution of water and vinegar or leave a cup of cat litter for a few hours to absorb the most potent smell.

3. Freshen the car. Use your standard air freshener to rid of the mildew smell in the rest of the car. If it’s a warm day, consider leaving the windows open for a few hours to aerate the interior. After a few days, your vehicle should return to its normal scent.

Portland Car Dealer: Detail Your Vehicle Like a Professional

New cars do possess a certain, enjoyable aroma, but the pre-owned vehicles at Gladstone Suzuki can look just as pristine. We don’t add new carpet and trim to achieve this; the secret to making a used car look new is in detailing. Anyone’s who has paid $100 or more for detailing knows that it includes much more than a wash and wax. A good detail job makes your car look as clean as it did when it was brand new. It’s a complete overhaul, inside and out, and you don’t have to pay dearly to have it done. With a few key tools, you can keep your used car looking new all by yourself.

Begin Inside

Go over every square inch of the car’s interior with a handheld vacuum: floors, seats, and walls. Move slowly and press firmly into cushioning to extract deep-set dust in the upholstery. When this is done, look for spots and apply a foaming stain remover; if your seats are leather, you should treat them long before they begin to crack. Various oil-based products are sold to protect leather seats and the plastic dashboard from sun damage. Habitually applying these products whenever you clean your car will maintain the interior for the long haul. Wash off any plastic mats and leave them out to dry, then go through and dust or polish the rest of the interior, ensuring you clean every nook and cranny.

Windows

You can use any standard glass cleaner for the windows, windshield, and mirrors. Make sure not to leave streaks, and keep the cleaning product and rags handy. You may need to touch up the outside of the windows again after washing the car.

Outside

To mirror the professionals, use an old toothbrush for tiny crevices when washing your vehicle’s exterior. Go over every line in the grill and every angle of the hubcaps. Before applying wax, look for foggy or scratched areas in the paint. Use a clear-coat safe cleaner for deep scratches, and then machine buff the spot. As you polish, be sure to read the label to see if you need specific products for chrome and plastic sections. Finally, gently apply a coat of wax to your vehicle for extra protection moving forward.

Completing these steps will ensure your car looks, feels, and smells as good as new!
