Portland Suzuki Dealer: Take Care of those Tires!
Work commutes. School drop-offs and pick-ups. Errands. Weekend getaways. Friday date nights. Every time you go somewhere in your car, your tires wear down, bit-by-bit. And, while many tires have 30-40,000 mile life expectancies, they don’t last forever and do require some routine maintenance. What, exactly, should you be looking for? What are the signs that tires need to be replaced? What should be done before they’re replaced to keep them in the best shape possible?
Pay Attention to the Tread Wear Bars Tires sold in the United States have small metal bars running perpendicular to the tread pattern. When the tread wears down, these bars become more visible. When they’re flush with the top of the tread, replace the tires.
Do the Penny Test Stick an Abraham Lincoln penny, head first, into the tire tread. If the top of Abe’s head, or any space above his head, is visible, replace the tires.
Rotate on a Regular Schedule Rotating the tires, which is recommended every 5-10,000 miles by most manufacturers, keeps the tread wearing evenly and will extend the life of the tires.

Portland Car Dealer: The Suzuki SX4 is Sporty and Efficient
Great to look at and fun to drive, Suzuki’s SX4 crossover is efficient, affordable, and sporty. The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety ranked it a “Top Small Car” in May of 2011, and the editors of Kelly Blue Book gave it a mostly-favorable rating (most of their criticisms are superficial). The safety features in the SX4 – eight airbags, 4-wheels discs with ABS and electronic force distribution, a tire pressure monitoring system – make this an excellent family vehicle.
Other features include 17-inch alloy wheels, XM radio option, and navigation system in the Sport model – making it a stylish, practical vehicle. While it’s not the most powerful car on the market – horsepower sits around 150 – fuel efficiency averages 31mpg highway and a well-equipped model runs about $17,500, making it an affordable option as well as stylish and safe.
At Gladstone Suzuki, we have a large selection of SX4 Crossover vehicles at great prices. Bring the family and come check one out for yourself!

Portland Car Dealer: 8 Great Gifts For People Who Spend Their Time on the Road
Gift-giving season is here. Chanukah starts on the 20th. Christmas follows five days later. Many people give gifts for Solstice or Festivus, and let’s not forget our friends and family with birthdays this month! Lots of people spend more time commuting than they do at home (or, at least, it may feel that way sometimes). We’ve compiled a list of eight budget-friendly gifts for weary travelers, items to make commuting more comfortable and pleasant. In no particular order, they are…
1. Travel mugs. Whether your commuter drinks coffee or tea, a mug to keep their morning beverage warm is a thoughtful way to say, “I care about you.”
2. Bluetooth™ headset or phone-to-speaker converter. We all know they’re going to answer the phone if it rings, so help them keep their hands on the wheel (and their actions within the law) by giving them a hands-free device.
3. GPS cozy. Leaving an expensive electronic gadget in the car isn’t the best idea, but tossing it into a purse or backpack without protection isn’t ideal, either. Protect that investment with a fashionable pouch.
4. All-in-one chargers. Cell phones, GPS units, MP3 players, tablet PCs, and laptops all need to be charged. When you’re taking those devices with you, sometimes they need to be charged along the way. All-in-one chargers eliminate the need for multiple units (just use the proper tip for the device you’re charging) and plug into the vehicle’s lighter port.
5. Gift certificates for oil changes or car washes. If you’re strapped for cash but want to do something thoughtful, make your own IOUs. Five car washes (complete with vacuuming) or a year’s worth of oil changes are simple but considerate actions to show you care.
6. Seat and steering wheel covers. Baby, it’s cold outside! Eliminate early-morning chills with sheepskin seat covers and wool steering wheel sleeves. They’re soft, warm, and protect leather from weather-induced damage.
7. A gift certificate to audible.com or iTunes. Audio books, music, and podcasts make any traffic jam more bearable and any drive seem shorter.
8. Neck and lumbar pillows. Few people have the ability to avoid pain from sitting in a car for long periods of time. Neck and lumbar pillows can make the journey more comfortable and help eliminate back and neck pain.
If you spend a lot of time in your car, what would you like to receive this year? Are you buying car-related gifts for anyone on your list?
